HONOR BOUND MEN ( discipleship )
Christian Men’s Network was founded in 1977 by Dr. Ed Cole and his family to help
pastors and leaders disciple men. Dr. Cole was a longtime pastor of a local church in California.
He saw the need for tools, books and resources to build strong men, strong families and strong
churches.
.
The foundational scripture is 2 Timothy 2:2 “Commit these words to faithful men who
will be able to teach others also.” As he began to work in this endeavor the Lord placed his
favor on it – resulting in a Christian men’s movement in America and in many parts of the world.
Today the Majoring in Men curriculum of the Christian Men’s Network has been used in
over 60,000 churches in over 40 languages around the world.
*Indonesia; over 1 million men discipled in local churches.
*VietNam; 2400 pastors being trained to disciple men.
*Uganda; hundreds of churches planted as a result of faithful men.
*Brazil; Almost 8,000 small groups across the nation.
*Argentina; 4,000 churches involved now in discipling men.
The Word does the work. We use books, training and resources to lead men into
relationship with Jesus, deepen their walk with Jesus and see them committed to their family,
church and community. It is the power of God, the Word of God that transforms men’s hearts –
we are committed to the process, because the process is committed to Jesus.
Acts 2:17 “In the last days,’ God says,
‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
We believe there is a cry across the earth for the heart of the Father.
Fatherlessness is the leading indicator of poverty in every culture of the world. CMN is
committed to raising up a generation of Godly fathers.
Paul the Apostle. 1 Corinthians 4:15 “For though you might have ten thousand
instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers…”
Instructor gives you what he knows, father gives you who he is.
Isaiah 3:1-2 Hero / Warrior. “For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, Takes away from
Jerusalem and from Judah, your security, The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of
water; The mighty man and the man of war … “
Great cultures have always been built on the character of heroes and courage of warriors …
CRISIS IN MANHOOD. Loss of identity and purpose. Issues across the nations with
fatherlessness, abuse, addictions, lethargy and sexual sins. Answer is Jesus in the hearts of men.
Manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous.
SIX AREAS OF INCREASE WHEN WE DISCIPLE MEN.
Increase Salvations. When men change, everything changes.
Increase growth; Disciples make disciples. Men who are fully committed and engaged will
bring friends, family and co-workers to church. And, bring their entire families.
Increase giving; Men who understand their purpose, will freely invest in the church.
Increase workers; Men who understand the mission are willing to work for the cause of Christ.
Discipled men are ready to get their hands dirty…to not only be equipped but to be empowered
and put to work
Increase influence; Influence comes from helping men solve problems, discipling solves many
issues – the pastor gains positive influence within the culture.
Increase personal time; Trained and empowered men will do the work of the ministry. The
result is increased time for the pastor to study, pray, minister, teach.
SEVEN KEYS TO A POWERFUL LOCAL MEN’S MOVEMENT.
1. Senior Pastor must be involved.
The DNA of the kingdom comes from the DNA of the King.
2. Make Fellowship the byproduct, not the focus – it’s about DISCIPLESHIP
Maturity does not come with age, but with the acceptance of responsibility.
3. Sermons don’t set men free, truth does.
Speak truth in love and with compassion … but speak truth.
4. Give your men a job.
The best men are always busy… that’s why they get stuff done.
Men who are not busy, are not men of vision and capacity.
5. Nothing just happens.
Prayer, strategy, perseverance, sweat … the level of your ministry will rise or fall to the
level of your commitment.
6. Build a spirit of FATHERING
The heart of a man is formed in the breath of his father. Hold men close. Be a friend.
7. Create the atmosphere of masculinity.
Every man has defining moments in his life that mark him, hold him, define him.
WE CAN HAVE GREAT CROWDS WITH GREAT SERMONS,
BUT WE’LL NEVER CHANGE A NATION, UNTIL WE DISCIPLE THE MEN!
