When Abram heard his brother Lot had been taken captive, he called up his 318 men, trained up in his own household and pursued them and brought back all the goods and his brother Lot. When you hear a “brother” has been taken “captive” (whether it’s lust, adultery, idolatry…), are you willing to drop what you’re doing and “pursue him and restore him into a right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ”?
Trust, in any relationship, can only be extended to the degree of truth and no more. When you don’t keep your word to someone, you are teaching them to not trust you. God’s word is His bond. God created us in His image. Therefore, our word should be our bond. Too many men don’t understand the power in the spoken word. God’s word becomes the sole source of our faith and the absolute rule of our conduct. When someone sins against you, you retain that sin in your life if you don’t forgive them. The same is true in a home where the father sins against the family, whether it is alcoholism, drugs, or some other type of abuse. Faithfulness is the cornerstone of character. God commits to faithfulness, not talent. II Timothy 2:2 says “commit thou to faithful men…” Luke 16:12 states “If you have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give your own?” What does a faithful man do if he’s unfaithful? He is faithful to repent.
Maturity doesn’t come with age, but with the acceptance of responsibility. Accepting responsibility is what Adam refused to do when God asked him in the Garden of Eden if he had eaten of the tree that He had commanded him not to. On Calvary, Christ was not only willing to accept responsibility for His actions but for the actions for all of mankind. Christlikeness – to be willing to accept responsibility for more than just yourself.
Kings and Priests in the Old Testament worked together hand-in-hand. The Priests got the vision from God and the Kings got the provision to carry out the vision. Too many businessmen feel like they need to go into “full-time” ministry. But, their gift of making money is the greatest ministry for the provision of getting the gospel to the world.
You can gain by giving what you cannot buy with money. There are things in life we need that money can’t buy. A lady bought a registration ticket for her ex-husband to come to a Christian Men’s event. His life was changed by the word of God he heard that day. She gained something by giving money that money couldn’t buy.
